DNR's Energy Efficient Homes Course for Builders starts June 1st

Home builders throughout the state are being offered a special training course on how to build better quality homes by the Department of Natural Resource's Energy Section. The course and textbook entitled, "Builder's Guide to Energy Efficient Homes in Louisiana" will be offered June 1 through June 24 in ten cities across the state.

FEDERAL GRANTS BOOST STATE'S ABILITY TO BECOME ENERGY EFFICIENT

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Technology Assessment Division, Energy Section has been awarded three competitive grants totaling $345,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE). The DNR submitted proposals and competed for these limited federal funds along with other state agencies from across the country. These new grants will be used by the Energy Section to continue promoting and fostering energy efficiency in the state. After the USDOE evaluated and selected the best proposals, DNR was awarded a Rebuilding Louisiana grant, Industries of the Future grant, and a Model Energy Code grant.

STATE TO CARRY OUT NEW COMMERCIAL BUILDING ENERGY CODE

Governor M. J. "Mike" Foster Jr. and state and federal officials gathered Tuesday for a ceremonial signing of Louisiana's new commercial building energy conservation code. A blue- ribbon panel of citizens and public officials that helped develop the energy code legislation also participated in the event. The state Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Energy section assisted in drafting the new law which was passed in this recent legislative session.
